New lesson: (40’) Sections Steps Techniques and content A 4 Skill development (reading) Warm-up Listening to The telephone number song Pre-reading Leading in to the new lesson by asking “So you know how to ask for and give your phone numbers to your friends, don’t you? How about making a phone call to invite your friends to go to the movies?” Pointing to the picture, setting up the scene: This is Tam and this is Phong. They’re talking on the phone about going to the movies. TASK 1: Questions – answers Now we will listen to a dialog between Tam and Phong. Before listening, I have one question for you” What time will they see each other tomorrow evening?” Listen and read it in your books. Try to find the answer (using multiple choice) a. at 7.00 b. at 6.45 Students choose a. or b. above while listening and reading while-reading Correcting task 1 after the 1st listening Tam and Phong will meet each other at 6.45 tomorrow evening. Questions – answers: Tam will be free yesterday, today, or tomorrow? What is the verb in the sentence Will you be free tomorrow evening? Or We’ll meet in front of the movie theater? So Will is used for Future plans. Students read questions a-d Teacher asks what is the place of Will in the questions? Students answer Will is after who/where /what TASK 2: Listen and read the dialog again (2nd time), and answer the questions in pairs Students compare their answers in pairs post-reading Teacher gives correct answers Teacher asks How about the place of Will in answers? Students answers Will is after subjects in answers Students listen and repeat the dialog after the tape (class split in half to play 2 roles (repetition) A5 skill development (listening) pre-listening Setting up the scene: Nga and Lan are talking on the phone. TASK 1: Questions – answers: We will listen to a dialog between Nga and Lan. Listen and try to find out the answers to the questions: a.What is Nga’s phone number? b.. Where they will meet? Students look at the questions while-listening Playing the cassette. Some pairs perform before class Homework: Write a dialog about phoning your friends to see a movie tomorrow evening.
