	GRAMMAR
Thì quá khứ đơn (Simple Past Tense)
1. Cấu tạo thì quá khứ đơn của các động từ
a. TO BE
Was: dùng cho ngôi thứ nhất số ít và ngôi thứ ba số ít.
- I was in Da Lat last year.
Năm ấy tôi ở Đà Lạt
- He was a doctor.
Ông ấy đã từng là bác sĩ.
Were: dùng cho các ngôi còn lại
- Were you at school yesterday?
Hôm qua các bạn có ở trường không?
- Yes. We were.
Vâng .Chúng tôi ở trường.
Dạng phủ định rút gọn: was not = wasn't và were not = weren't
b. Have có một dạng quá khứ là had.
c. Do có một dạng quá khứ là did.
d. Động từ thường: chia làm hai loại
Regular verbs (động từ có quy tắc): là những động từ ở dạng quá khứ (past) và quá khứ phân từ (past participle) được thêm –ED. Các bạn xem tiếp phần Cách thêm ed ở bên dưới.
work --> worked walk --> walked
wash --> washed study --> studied
Irregular verbs (động từ bất quy tắc): là những động từ có dạng quá khứ (past) và quá khứ phân từ (past participle) không được thêm –ED. Với các động từ này, các bạn cần học thuộc.

go --> went gone
see --> saw seen
build --> built built
2. Cách thêm ed
a. Thông thường chúng ta thêm ed vào sau động từ.
watch --> watched plant --> planted
b. Động từ tận cùng bằng e câm chúng ta chỉ thêm d.
live --> lived arrive --> arrived
c. Động từ tận cùng bằng y:
  + Trước y là một nguyên âm (a, e, i, o, u), chúng ta thêm ed.
play --> played stay --> stayed
  + Trước y là một phụ âm, chúng ta đổi y thành i rồi thêm ed.
study --> studied try --> tried
d. Động từ một vần tận cùng bằng một phụ âm trước có một nguyên âm chúng ta gấp đôi phụ âm trước khi thêm ed.
stop --> stopped plan --> planned
e. Động từ HAI VẦN, vần thứ hai được nhấn trọng âm, tận cùng bằng một phụ âm trước có một nguyên âm, chúng ta gấp đôi phụ âm trước khi thêm ed.
omit --> omitted permit --> permitted
Cách dùng thì Quá khứ đơn
a. sự kiện đã xảy ra và chấm dứt hoàn toàn trong quá khứ.
- He lived here.
Anh ấy đã sống ở đây.
- They were in the library.
Chúng đã ở trong thư viện.
b. sự kiện xảy ra trong quá khứ với thời gian được xác định. Thường trong câu có từ: yesterday, last, ago, first (lần đầu tiên ), in 2015, ...
- Where were you last Saturday?
Thứ Bảy bạn ở đâu?
- A week ago, we stayed with our uncle.
Cách đây một tuần, chúng tôi ở với chú của chúng tôi.
c. sự kiện xảy ra suốt một khoảng thời gian trong quá khứ và đã chấm dứt.

- They spent their holiday at the seaside during the summer.

Dạng phủ định và nghi vấn
Dạng phủ định: sử dụng did not/ didn't hoặc dạng phủ định của was, were
- Khẳng định: S + V2/ED + O
 + They went to the zoo last Sunday.
 Chủ nhật rồi họ đi vườn thú.
- Phủ định: S + DIDN’T +V + O
 --> They did not/didn't go to the zoo last Sunday.
 Chủ nhật vừa rồi họ không đi vườn thú.
- Khẳng định:
 + He watched TV last night.
 Đêm rồi anh ấy xem tivi.
 --> He didn't watch TV last night.
 Đêm rồi anh ấy không xem tivi.
Dạng nghi vấn: 
- Khẳng định:
 + They went to the zoo last Sunday.
- Nghi vấn:
 --> Did they go to the zoo last Sunday?
 Chủ nhật rồi họ có đi vườn thú không?
- Khẳng định:
 + He watched TV last night.
- Nghi vấn:
